BlueKong Go: A New On-Demand Platform Promises to Fix One of IT’s Biggest Headaches

Anyone who has ever waited hours, or even days, for an IT engineer to turn up knows how frustrating traditional support models can be.

When systems fail, businesses don’t want paperwork, contracts, and scheduling delays. They want someone competent on site, quickly.

That’s exactly the problem BlueKong Networks hopes to solve with its upcoming platform, BlueKong Go, a new digital service designed to connect organisations with certified IT field engineers in real time.

Currently in final testing, with a wider launch planned for 1 May 2026, the platform aims to modernise how businesses source technical help when something goes wrong.

IT Engineers, On Demand

BlueKong Go works by matching businesses needing technical support with vetted IT engineers available nearby. Instead of relying on rigid support contracts or overstretched in-house teams, organisations can request an engineer on demand.

Behind the scenes, the platform uses identity verification, skills profiling, real-time geolocation and intelligent scheduling to pair each request with the most suitable engineer available.

In simple terms: the right person, in the right place, at the right time.

The result should be faster problem resolution, less downtime, and a more flexible way for businesses to access specialist IT expertise.

Matthew Conquer, owner of BlueKong Networks, believes the timing is right for a rethink of traditional IT service delivery.

Businesses today, he told That's Technology, need IT support that can move as quickly as their operations do, without the overheads and delays that often come with conventional service models.

A Different Kind of Tech Platform

Unlike many gig-economy apps, BlueKong Go positions itself as a members-only network of verified professionals. Engineers must pass a structured approval process before joining, ensuring clients are matched only with qualified specialists.

The platform also includes built-in communications, location tracking, and quality assurance tools designed to make interactions transparent for both clients and engineers.

To reinforce trust, completed work comes with a ten-day guarantee.

Smarter, Greener Support

Interestingly, the platform has also been designed with sustainability in mind.

By assigning the closest qualified engineer to a job, BlueKong Go aims to reduce unnecessary travel and cut the carbon footprint associated with long-distance call-outs. More efficient scheduling could also reduce repeat visits and wasted resources.

Faster fixes may even extend the lifespan of IT equipment, helping organisations avoid premature replacement.

Flexible Work for Engineers Too

It’s not just businesses that stand to benefit.

For engineers, the platform offers flexible work opportunities, including evening and weekend assignments, along with smarter routing that reduces travel stress.

BlueKong Go will be accessible through web access, mobile apps and API integrations, allowing organisations of all sizes, from SMEs to public sector bodies, to request support and manage jobs in real time.

If the platform delivers on its promises, it could mark a significant shift in how companies access the technical expertise that keeps modern digital operations running.

Offensive Security Becomes Business-Critical as UK Faces Major Cyber Incidents

The scale, frequency, and sophistication of cyberattacks in the UK have escalated sharply throughout 2025, causing widespread operational disruption and mounting economic damage.

Recent data and high-impact incidents show that organisations can no longer rely on periodic audits or reactive security measures.

As a result, organisations are being challenged to rethink their security strategy and embrace an offensive mindset.

Major UK Attacks Rise By Over 50%

The National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) Annual Review 2025, covering the period from September 2024 to August 2025, underscores the severity of the situation.

During this time, the NCSC handled 204 nationally significant cyber incidents, an increase of more than 50% compared to the previous year.

The review also reported four high impact attacks every week, each capable of disrupting essential services across the country and causing widespread operational and economic disruption.

In worst case scenarios, such attacks could compromise not only business operations but critical national infrastructure too.

The government is now urging organisations to take stronger action to protect the UK economy and make cyber resilience a board-level responsibility.

The economic stakes are equally stark. The recent cyberattack against Jaguar Land Rover, which is thought to be the largest cyber incident in UK history, has been estimated to cost the UK economy £1.9 billion. This led to Jaguar Land Rover having to shut down systems across their factories and offices, with knock-on effects extending to as many as 5,000 organisations in its supply chain.

Richard Horne, CEO of the NCSC, issued a clear warning. He told That's Technology: “Cyber security is now a matter of business survival and national resilience. The best way to defend against these attacks is for organisations to make themselves as hard a target as possible.”

Offensive Security: Thinking Faster Than the Attacker

Keith Poyser, Vice President for EMEA at Horizon3.ai, explains organisations can only become “harder targets” by adopting an offensive, attacker-like mindset:

“Organisations must think faster than potential attackers. All attack surface, ongoing penetration testing is the only reliable way to determine whether hackers can break in and whether an organisation’s security controls are genuinely effective.

"Validate your defences in the context of your environment, don’t guess or rely on noisy low relevance vulnerability lists alone”

Although penetration testing has existed for decades, it's traditionally been conducted only annually or quarterly, and purely by humans, which is no longer adequate given the speed at which attackers evolve. We have already seen AI tools misused to rewrite attacks on the fly adapting to defences or detection technologies.

Continuous, autonomous pentesting via platforms such as Horizon3.ai’s NodeZero® Offensive Security Platform allow organisations to validate their security posture as frequently as needed, even daily, without the cost, delays, or limitations of manual-only tests. With them, businesses can emulate attacker techniques in live environments and integrate them seamlessly with agile and DevOps workflows, aligning security testing with how software is actually built and deployed today.

Horizon3.ai’s own Cybersecurity Report UK 2024/25 which collected responses from managers with IT level responsibility in 150 UK organisations confirms many organisations aren't taking the right approach to face today’s rapidly evolving threat landscape.

When asked whether they take a purely defensive stance against cyber threats, or if they conduct offensive exercises to identify risks and vulnerabilities, results showed 34% reported using only defensive measures, 21% focus on defence but occasionally conduct offensive exercises, and only 12% conduct offensive exercises internally. A further 15% were unsure how to approach this, while 18% said they outsource offensive exercises entirely.

Another question asked which technology, solution or practice they believed would significantly improve their security. 12% said they would want more budget funds, while 37% said they want to know exactly where they are vulnerable so they can proactively address weaknesses, a clear indication of the need for autonomous penetration testing. 26% responded that they would need to convince the leadership that cybersecurity must be a top priority.

Cybersecurity Must Become a Board-Level Responsibility

Government bodies, industry regulators, and customers are increasingly urging CEOs, boards, and senior leaders to take explicit, personal ownership of cyber risk. This shift reflects a broader recognition that cybersecurity is now a core component of organisational stability, operational continuity, and economic resilience.

Penetration testing plays a pivotal role in meeting these heightened expectations and has become a cornerstone of both operational and economic resilience. By continuously validating defences, organisations can reduce their Mean Time to Remediate (MTTR), lower the cost of fixing weaknesses, and significantly strengthen their overall security posture. Regular testing also supports risk-based vulnerability management, enhances audit readiness, and creates a verifiable record of due diligence—ultimately easing the burden of compliance.

Due Care and Due Diligence as Foundations of Cyber Risk Management

In cybersecurity, two fundamental principles form the backbone of effective risk management: due care and due diligence (Paired with a duty to know). Due care refers to the proactive steps an organisation takes to protect its systems, data, and users, such as enforcing security policies, fixing weaknesses, and carrying out regular risk assessments.

Due diligence, on the other hand, is the ongoing validation of whether those protective measures are actually working. It involves activities such as penetration testing, reviewing third-party risks, and verifying alignment with industry standards. Where due care is about implementing safeguards, due diligence is about proving they stand up in real-world conditions.

Keith Poyser added: “Together, they ensure  organisations are not only putting security controls in place but also continuously confirming their effectiveness. Continuous pentesting is central to this process, providing the evidence organisations need to demonstrate their cyber resilience.”

Technology sector confident on jobs and revenues but overall confidence falls says survey

Despite uncertainty over world economic growth and the Euro debt crisis, senior executives in the global technology industry are optimistic about growth in their own company’s jobs and revenues over the next 12 months, according to the annual technology sector confidence survey conducted by Eurocom Worldwide (http://www.eurocompr.com) the global PR network, in association with UK PR agency, Six Degrees (http://www.sixdegreespr.com). However, confidence in the outlook for the technology sector overall is down on this time last year.

Sixty per cent of respondents expect the business they work for to increase jobs and 71 per cent forecast an increase in revenues. In contrast, less than half of respondents (46 per cent) are more confident about the outlook for the technology sector over the next 12 months, down from 61 per cent last year. The study of over 300 executives was conducted in January and February 2012.

Commenting on the overall upbeat results of the survey against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, Mads Christensen, Network Director of Eurocom Worldwide said: “Despite confidence in prospects for the technology sector in general falling from last year, senior executives remain upbeat about the outlook for their own businesses. This is remarkable since our survey was conducted in January and February against the backdrop of continuing concern about the Euro debt crisis and amid slowing GDP growth across many economies.”

The survey is positive on the outlook for tech jobs. Sixty per cent expect to increase employment, similar to last year (57 per cent). Just five per cent expect to decrease headcount (nine per cent in 2011). Almost a third of respondents refer to a skills shortage with 30 per cent saying it is more difficult than last year to hire individuals with the right technology skills.

Amanda Hassall, Director at Six Degrees, said: “We believe two things may be happening. Exciting new technologies in areas, such as mobile and the cloud, mean that there is a stronger case than ever for IT investment. Second, it is likely that deferred IT spend can no longer be delayed if organisations are to maintain competitiveness.”

The Eurocom Worldwide technology confidence survey was conducted online by member agencies of Eurocom Worldwide during January and February 2012. A total of 318 responses were received with approximately 80% from European countries and 11% from the Americas.

Social media gives IT more clout

Service management unlocks commercial potential of brave new social media world

According to service management company Sunrise Software, today’s IT department should embrace the growing rise of social media as the ideal platform to increase customer engagement and generate new sales rather than focus on the challenges it presents such as network security and reduced employee productivity. In an article published today, Sunrise Software points out that IT professionals have an important part to play in creating a best-practice framework that maximises the commercial potential of social media and elevates the role of IT at the same time.

Geoff Rees, Sales Director of Sunrise Software, commented: “Love it or hate it, the fact remains that today’s social media world is big business and those who consider it just for kids or consumers should think again. Not only do social media networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter™ represent a vital new sales channel but the real-time, viral nature of their content, posted 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world, can wreak havoc with a company’s corporate brand. IT directors have a duty to take control of the new social media environment around them in a way that empowers their staff rather than stifles their commercial creativity.”

Round-the-clock social media requires a round-the-clock response. More and more people are using social media to praise or air their grievances about the products and services they receive in both business-to-consumer and, increasingly, business-to-business environments. Consumers are choosing to take notice of complete strangers rather than rely on the traditional word-of-mouth reputation or the opinion of a friend. As a result, companies need to know what customers are saying about them at all times.

The rise of social media poses today’s IT professionals with a real conundrum. Traditionally, IT decision-makers have frequently taken the decision to block social media networking sites in the workplace for fear of compromising corporate network security or for reasons of reduced staff productivity. However, banning social media entirely effectively shuts down a valuable sales channel and isolates companies from what their customers are saying about them, denying them the right to reply where they can protect and defend their brand.

The best way forward is to adopt an IT service management approach to social media. There are many success stories which prove how the IT department can and does take an active lead in creating a best practice technology framework that demonstrably contributes to commercial success.

Using Sunrise’s Sostenuto technology, high profile brands such as Anglian Water and Vision Express have introduced flexible but process-driven service management infrastructures that have enabled them to become role models for the rest of their organisation. In just one year, Vision Express raised SLA performance from 87% to 96% and premier contract catering firm Elior has extended the functionality of its Sostenuto-based IT service desk to other departments including purchasing, supplier management and HR with considerable success.

IT has long been the vanguard of new technologies and processes that ultimately impact the bottom line. Most importantly, vendors should continually strive to improve their service management product offering and invest in developing innovative new technology that addresses their customers’ changing social media requirements. Sophisticated applications that integrate seamlessly with today’s social media networking sites will enable organisations to track industry perception of their products and services so that they can proactively respond to complaints and ultimately encourage consumers to provide direct and constructive feedback online.

Along with the right technology, IT should develop a best practice social media policy that supports existing corporate HR and operational risk management procedures and is communicated widely across the organisation in the usual manner.

Geoff Rees concluded: “Social media is no longer the exclusive domain of marketers. The time has come for the IT department to become the corporate hub and centre of excellence for social media. By applying their already extensive expertise and proven track record in service management, IT directors are perfectly placed to help their client-facing departments increase their digital presence in the workplace and use it for competitive, commercial advantage.”

Finnish IT company arrives in UK and Denmark

Finnish IT service provider Eficode has expanded its operations to the United Kingdom and Denmark through an acquisition. In addition to Finland, China and Russia, the young company now also has operations in London and Copenhagen. “You CAN swim against the current nowadays”, said Risto Virkkala, CEO of the company.

Eficode, headquartered in Helsinki, announced on 9th November the acquisition of Videnhuset a/s and its subsidiary Videnhuset UK Limited.

The company specialises in the resale, implementation and support of software systems from Autonomy Systems, which was itself recently acquired by Hewlett-Packard. The acquisition makes Eficode the largest Nordic implementation partner and distributor for Autonomy, and one of the largest in Europe. With the expansion of its expertise base, Eficode is able to offer Autonomy's entire extensive product portfolio in all of the Nordic countries, the UK and most of Europe. Autonomy, now owned by HP, develops solutions for the automation of information management and business processes of enterprises.

“The acquisition aims to increase our business opportunities and our ability to offer our exceptional service to a wider range of customers internationally. We seek volume in other Nordic countries and the UK as the Autonomy business in Finland is limited simply due to the size of the market. A presence in Denmark and the UK also offers some very interesting possibilities to increase the international dimension of our other business areas. We want to take the learning-oriented and lively Eficode culture abroad”, Virkkala envisions.

Eficode's strong financial position has created the opportunity for the expansion of operations internationally. The company reached a turnover of 5 million Euros with 1.1 million Euros profit in the year ending June 2011 and in addition to the geographic expansion it is also investing in the development of new services and expertise.

The company plans to avoid the pitfalls of internationalisation with sound business realism. “We're always putting business first, also when going abroad. Our organisation develops in step with cash flow and I believe that careful monitoring of the business will limit risks”, says Virkkala. “Starting the Beijing office was a really steep learning curve and we are building on what we learned”.

Virkkala estimates that the number of employees at Eficode will increase from the current 70 employees to over one hundred as a result of the acquisition and planned recruitment for other projects.

IT Governance launches toolkit to help you maximise IT service management

IT Governance (ITG), the one-stop shop for ITIL®, ISO/IEC 20000 and IT service management expertise, is today launching a toolkit to help companies secure the benefits of best practice IT service management (ITSM).

The new ‘IT Service Management Documentation Toolkit’ is designed to help companies put in place ‘fit-for-purpose’ documentation, implement ITIL service management best practices and, ultimately, optimise their IT service management systems.

Alan Calder, Chief Executive of IT Governance, points out: ‘This unique toolkit is the perfect investment for organisations seeking an optimal route to ITSM best practice, guiding companies through the relevant processes. ITIL is the world’s foremost ITSM framework and ITIL implementation is invaluable for achieving compliance with ISO/IEC 20000, the globally recognised set of ITSM standards.

‘With the ITIL framework providing best practice guidance on how to manage IT infrastructure and streamline IT services in line with business expectations, ITIL is becoming increasingly vital for IT professionals.

‘Our toolkit draws on original content licensed by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), which oversees the ITIL framework, so you can be sure the toolkit contains the relevant documentation to ensure correct implementation and enjoy the consequent organisational and commercial benefits.

‘The importance of ITSM can hardly be overestimated, especially as many service providers are required by their governments to achieve ISO/IEC 20000 certification. This toolkit will help organisations avoid costly trial-and-error dead-ends.’

The documents contained in the toolkit include service management plan templates; a service level agreement template; 100 pre-written policies, procedures, templates and guidance documents; a pre-written IT service management system manual; and over 400 pages of fit-for-purpose information.

The toolkit was written and created by ITIL specialists Jenny Dugmore and Shirley Lacy. Dugmore was the chair of the British Standards Institution (BSI) committee that produced BS15000, a prequel to ISO/IEC 20000, and is now the chair of the ISO Committee responsible for the 20000 series. In 2005, she was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF). Lacy was an ITIL author and project mentor for the ITIL 2011 Update. She holds the ITIL ‘expert’ certificate and is an accredited trainer for ITIL and ISO/IEC 20000. Among their many ITSM-related achievements, Dugmore and Lacy have co-authored ‘A Manager’s Guide to Service Management’ and ‘Introduction To The ISO/IEC 20000 Series’.

Dugmore says: ‘Effective service management is increasingly recognised as fundamental to business success. Customers are looking for better quality, lower costs, greater flexibility and faster responses to their changing requirements. This toolkit enables all types of service providers to set up and implement an effective service management system that delivers quality and value to customers.’

Lacy adds: ‘The toolkit uses tried and tested best practices that avoid re-inventing the wheel. The gap analysis tool and template-driven approach will help an organisation assess current ITSM requirements and implement relevant service management processes.’

The toolkit costs £495 ($818.06/€568.75) and can be purchased as a download at: www.itgovernance.co.uk/products/3370.

A ‘try before you buy’ version of the toolkit is also available and can be requested here.
